OUR CURRICULUM

OUR FOUR year Rolling Programme

FOUR Year Rolling Programme

At Pilton Bluecoat Academy, our curriculum is designed to be progressive and connected, building seamlessly on the learning children have experienced at Pilton Infants. Each subject is carefully planned so that pupils can revisit and develop prior knowledge, deepening their understanding as they move through the school.

For example, in History, children in Year 3 begin with Stone Age life, which develops in Year 4 to explore Anglo-Saxon Britain, and continues in Year 5 with Ancient Greece’s influence on Britain, before Year 6 examines Britain at War and the growth of the British Empire. Similarly, in Geography, Year 3 children learn about the Amazon River, Year 4 explores mountain ranges and rivers, Year 5 investigates Ancient China and its influence, and Year 6 studies Frozen Kingdoms and Antarctica.

Our curriculum also incorporates global links, giving children opportunities to learn about the UK, Spain, Germany, and India through themed topics and projects. This approach ensures that learning is cohesive, purposeful, and engaging, allowing pupils to build on prior knowledge, make connections across subjects, and develop a rich understanding of the world around them.

By the time children leave Pilton Bluecoat, they have experienced a curriculum that is broad, balanced, and challenging, while remaining rooted in the strong foundations laid at Pilton Infants.
