Dear Parents and Carers,
What a fantastic week it has been at Pilton Bluecoat Academy! It has been one of those weeks that truly reflects our vision of Building Brighter Futures, with so many opportunities for our children to grow in confidence, develop new skills and create lasting memories.
We started the week with our transition events. Seeing our Year 6 children heading off to their secondary schools certainly felt strange, but they returned full of confidence and excitement for the next stage of their journey. It was wonderful to hear them sharing their experiences and looking forward to September.
On Tuesday, we welcomed our Year 2 children from the Pilton Infant School and other schools to join us for lunch. They were absolutely incredible, showing confidence, excellent manners and enthusiasm as they experienced life at Pilton Bluecoat C of E Academy. I have to say a huge thank you to our amazing Year 5 buddies. Watching the conversations, encouragement, guidance and genuine care they showed was a real pleasure. They made our younger visitors feel safe and welcomed from the moment they arrived. Year 5, you were simply awesome!
Later that afternoon, every class spent time with their new teachers. These transition sessions are so important, giving children the opportunity to build relationships and begin looking forward to the new academic year. We know that for some children change can be difficult, especially when friendships and routines have become so well established. As always, we spent time supporting those who found the transition a little more challenging, and I was incredibly proud of how resilient and positive they all were.
This week also saw us host a TEAM MAT Trust Basketball Tournament at Pilton Community College. The event was brilliantly organised. David Roper, did a fantastic job throughout the morning. Mr Turner commented on how much the Year 6 children who remained in school thoroughly enjoyed taking part, competing with determination, teamwork and excellent sportsmanship. Well done to everyone involved.
Our Year 4 children have immersed themselves in their history topic on the Battle of Torrington. The battle event was a huge success, with children and families putting an enormous amount of effort into creating authentic armour, helmets and weaponry. The costumes were absolutely fantastic and helped bring history to life in a memorable and engaging way. Thank you to all of our families for the time, it made such a difference to the children's experience.
Our Year 5 children also visited Exeter to explore both the Mosque and the Synagogue as part of their Religious and World Views learning. We received some wonderful feedback from the synagogue, where staff commented on how respectful, thoughtful and inquisitive our children were throughout the visit. Experiences like these bring the National Curriculum to life while helping our children develop a deeper understanding of different faiths, cultures and communities.
Meanwhile, our Year 4 children had an unforgettable experience at the Ultimate Adventure Centre whilst on residential. From working together to overcome challenges to developing independence, resilience and confidence, they embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm. Along the way there was, of course, plenty of fun too! Well done to all of Year 4 for representing our school so brilliantly.
None of these incredible opportunities would be possible without the dedication of our staff. Whether organising trips, supporting transition, running sporting events or simply encouraging every child to be their very best each day, thank you for everything you do. Your commitment helps us continue to provide experiences that our children will remember for years to come.
Thank you to all our families for your continued support in ensuring children attend school every day they can. Every lesson counts, and excellent attendance plays a vital role in children's learning, friendships and wellbeing. As we approach the end of the academic year, let's continue working together to give every child the very best opportunity to succeed.
