Dear Parents and Carers,
What a wonderful and exciting week we have had at Pilton Bluecoat C of E Academy as we celebrated not just World Book Day, but a whole World Book Week! Mrs Dadswell and the school team planned a fantastic range of activities to truly immerse the children in the adventures and excitement that reading can bring.
Throughout the week we have had a carousel of reading across the school, where different members of staff have shared their favourite books with groups of children each day. It has been wonderful to see the children enjoying stories from a range of adults around the school and discovering new authors and characters. Also, work around an emotional menagerie in literacy and Rob Holmes a special Devon author who led an engaging workshop, inspiring the children even further with the joy of books and storytelling. He has kindly donated two books to our school and given every child a bookmark with a special discount code, should they wish to order any books.
One of the highlights of the week was seeing the children come to school dressed as a word. I must say, I have certainly been on a learning journey myself, as I didn’t realise quite how far the English vocabulary stretches! The creativity and thought that went into the costumes was fantastic.
A big well done to all of you for supporting your children with this. It truly has been a lovely week in school and a wonderful reminder of how important reading is for imagination, learning and enjoyment.
In order to support you and your children with home learning, I will be sending out further information shortly. Our aim is to empower children to consolidate their learning and build on ideas and concepts covered in school. It is also about helping them develop the independence and habits that will support them as they move on to secondary school and beyond.
If you have any questions about home learning, please do speak with your child’s class teacher.
Can I also ask that parents and carers check the school uniform policy on the school website when purchasing uniform. It is important that children come to school dressed appropriately and in the correct uniform. Recently we have seen an increase in trainers and other items of clothing that are not part of the school uniform being worn in school. Your support in ensuring children arrive in the correct uniform is greatly appreciated.
Next week we will be holding our family meetings, and we hope you have been able to book a time slot with your child’s class teacher. These meetings are an important opportunity to get together and to talk about your child’s progress and learning.
If you have any concerns about booking a meeting, please speak to your child’s class teacher or contact the school office where we will be happy to help.
As ever, thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Mathew Harts
